Windows will warn you about this file
The installer is not yet signed with a certificate Microsoft recognises, so SmartScreen shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Verify the checksum below if you would rather not take our word for it.
Why it asks for an administrator password
A VPN has to create a network connection and, for the Kill Switch, add filtering rules to Windows itself — neither is something an ordinary application is allowed to do. The installer registers a small privileged service that owns exactly those operations; the app runs with your normal permissions and asks the service to act. Removing VPNzo removes the service and every rule it added.
Kill Switch
While it is on, traffic that would leave the machine outside the tunnel is blocked in the network stack, not merely discouraged — so a VPN that drops cuts the connection instead of quietly falling back to your own. The rules never survive a restart: if anything ever goes wrong, rebooting restores the network.
Updates
The app checks for a newer build on launch and tells you when one is out — come back to this page to install it. Builds we have withdrawn stop working and say so, rather than carrying on with a defect we already fixed.
